A Little Bit About UsWhy I started Modern Urns. A little bit about us. My grandfather was one of those guys who didn't believe in going to Home Depot to buy a two dollar metal hinge for a door if he could get me to make it for him. As a machinist by trade, I've always loved to design and build things from metal. And because I was a machinist, I was always making something for my grandpa! I didn't mind because we were very close.
A few years ago grandpa developed terminal cancer. He knew he was going to die, so he asked me to make one last thing... His cremation urn. I'm not sure why, but this was something I didn't really want to do... I actually put off making it until just before he passed away. He never saw it, but I know he would be proud. 
I ended up making another urn for a friend who had a family member pass away, and another, for one of my relatives. And even though the death of a loved one is a sad experience, I felt good to be able to help those ones out by making the personalized urns. Now making urns has developed into a business for me, but even so, I still feel good every time I see a family proud of the urn I could make for them.
