Funeral bible readings, are they something to consider?
Yes by all means!
 The Bible has a wonderful message of hope and comfort that every one in the audience will appreciate.
Here are some suggestions of statements you might make, followed by short readings... The following texts came from the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. - Death is not final. Notice these two beautiful promises from the bible, God's Word...
John 5:28, 29 - "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life." Revelation:3, 4 - "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” - Then, tell the audience not to underestimate the value of prayer when seeking comfort and read this scripture;
Psalm 55:22 - "Throw your burden upon Jehovah (God) himself, and he himself will sustain you. Never will he allow the righteous one to totter." - Lastly, state that God feels for us, and comforts those who are in mourning. Read this scripture;
Psalms 34:18 - "Jehovah (God) is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves."
These are just a few bible verses for funerals that can bring comfort to all at the funeral service.
